Mock Interview: a full timed practice interview
The Mock Interview is a full practice interview from start to finish. You choose how many questions you want and the mix of general and trade questions. At the end you see a score for each answer.
What the Mock Interview is
In the other sections you choose a topic and practise it. A real interview is different, because you do not know what comes next. The Mock Interview copies this. It takes questions from General Practice and Skills Practice and mixes them in a random order.
Every answer is spoken and timed. You get feedback after each answer and a round summary at the end.
Who it helps
This section helps you if:
- you have practised the other sections and want to test yourself
- you have an interview soon and want a full run first
- you get tired or lose focus in a long interview
- you want to practise moving from personal questions to technical ones
How a round works
Set the mix
Move the "Mix" slider to choose how many general and how many trade questions you get.
Choose the number of questions
Choose 10, 15, 20 or 25, then press "Start mock interview".
Watch and answer
The interviewer asks each question. You answer out loud after the interviewer finishes.
Watch the timer
Each answer has 90, 75 or 60 seconds, set by your English level.
Read the feedback
After each answer you get a score and feedback. Press "Next question" to go on.
See the round summary
At the end you see your average score and a score for each answer. Press "View feedback" to read any answer again.
The how it works page explains the timer, the buttons and the feedback screen.
How it is marked
Every answer in a Mock Interview is AI-marked, the same way as in General Practice and Skills Practice. Your answer is compared with a model answer for its meaning, not its exact words. The score is from 0 to 10, in steps of 0.5. The round summary shows the average of your marked answers.
Each marked answer uses one marked question from your plan. So a round of 10 questions uses up to 10. "We did not hear an answer" does not count. Check pricing before you choose a long round.
Tips for getting the most from it
- Start with 10 questions. Choose a longer round when 10 feels comfortable.
- Do the whole round in one sitting, like a real interview.
- Sit up and speak as you would to a real person.
- Press "Show my camera" to check how you look. The camera is never recorded.
- After the round, open "My results" and find your lowest scores.
- Practise those topics again in General Practice or Skills Practice.
What a question looks like
The example below is a real question from the practice bank, the kind you can get in a Mock Interview. It is shown without the model answer. In a real round you do not know which question comes next.
A general question, then a trade question
Tell me a bit about yourself and your background.
Then, out loud
Tell me about how you worked with panel beaters in your past jobs. How did the panel shop and the paint shop work together to get cars out on time?
A real question from the practice bank. The model answer is shown only after you answer.

Questions and answers
Do the questions come in the same order each time?
No. A Mock Interview mixes the questions in a random order. General Practice and Skills Practice use a fixed order.
Can I choose only trade questions?
Yes. Move the "Mix" slider. You can choose all general questions, all trade questions or a mix.
How long does a Mock Interview take?
It depends on the number of questions and how long you speak. Each answer has a limit of 60 to 90 seconds.
Does a Mock Interview use marked questions?
Yes. Each answer that is marked uses one marked question from your plan.
What if I need to stop early?
Press "Save and exit". The answers already marked are kept in "My results". A new Mock Interview starts a new round.
Is this the same as a real interview?
No. It is practice. A real interview may be different, and we are not part of any employer or government.
